  2. FrEdWriter is easy to learn.
  3.  
  4. You must know 4 things to use FrEd:
  5.  
  6. 1.  Keys on the keyboard make letters
  7. on the screen
  8.  
  9. 2.  DELETE key erases mistakes
  10.  
  11. 3.  ARROW keys move the cursor around
  12.  
  13. 4.  The <T>utor tells you more about
  14. FrEd
  15. .PAGE
  16. FrEdWriter Commands look like this:
  17. <T>utor   <P>rint    <L>oad
  18.  
  19. Type them this way:
  20.  
  21. 1. PRESS the CONTROL (or CTRL) KEY
  22.  
  23. 2. KEEP it down while you STRIKE the
  24. letter inside the < >.
  25.  
  26. 3. Release both keys.
  27.  
  28. When you are using FrEdWriter,  you can
  29. always type the <T>utor Command to see
  30. a list of other FrEd Commands.

  33. top line in FrEdWriter)

  38. files: DOC.A, DOC.B, DOC.C, & DOC.D.

  40. Use FrEdWriter to load, read, & print
  41. them.

  43. To load DOC.A when using FrEdWriter:
  44.  
  45. 1. Type the <N>ew Command (Control-N)
  46. At the prompt at the bottom of the
  47. screen, type 'Y' and press RETURN.

  49. 2. Type the <L>oad Command (Control-L)
  50.  
  51. 3. At the prompt at the bottom of the
  52. screen type 'DOC.A' and press
  53. RETURN.

  61. <S> = SAVE from memory to disk

  66. <R> = REVEAL/Hide Paragraph Markers
  67. <B> = Jump to text BEGINNING
  68. <E> = Jump to text END
  69. <N> = NEW Page (erase memory)
  70. <X> = CENTER a line
  71. <Q> = QUIT FrEdWriter (Return to Menu)
  72. <V> = Accept Printer Control Commands

  78. FrEdWriter can speak SPANISH on Apple
  79. IIe Computers. Spanish FrEd displays
  80. real SPANISH on the screen, and prints
  81. SPANISH on many printers.

  84. To use Spanish FrEd, you must replace
  85. the character chip on your Apple IIe
  86. with the Spanish WizChip, which allows
  87. the display of Spanish characters.  The
  88. Spanish WizChip does not interfere with
  89. normal operation of your Apple.

  92. Spanish WizChips, instructions, and a
  93. copy of Spanish FrEd are  $40.00 in
  94. quantities 1-5.  More than 5 are $30.00
  95. each.

  101. II+ Computers which have 64K of RAM and
  102. a Lower Case Character Chip (Revision 7
  103. and later motherboards).

  105. The WizChip II is a complete, low-cost
  106. lower-case conversion kit for  Apple II
  107. and II+ computers for only $20.00.

  121. Paul Lutus, author of Applewriter,
  122. wrote FreeWriter and contributed it to
  123. free, public use in 1984.
  124.  
  125. It has been widely distributed by the
  126. International Apple Core Users' Group
  127. and others, and has been used around
  128. the world.

  130. However, it required some sprucing up
  131. to make it acceptable in schools.  For
  132. instance, it needed a self-contained
  133. print module; a friendlier ProDOS
  134. user interface; ProDOS disk utilities;
  135. capabilities for prompted writing; and
  136. other helpful features.

  143. a new name to prevent confusion.
